The MUP Encyclopaedia of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy

mupencyclopedia_thumb3Paul Collins asked Sean McMullen and I to join him on a speculative fiction encyclopedia project for Melbourne University Press. The book ended up being called The MUP Encyclopaedia of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy, with Paul as the editor, and Sean McMullen and myself as assistant editors.

We solicited a number of eminent academics and writers to contribute to the project, so the content is rich and varied. But as it turned out, as well as being an assistant editor, I ended up as the primary contributor to the encyclopedia, writing more of the book’s prose content than any other single contributor.

The MUP Encyclopaedia of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy was nominated twice and was winner of the 1999 William Atheling Jr. Award for Criticism.
